At Iegorov Marine Inspection & Audits, we know time in port is always short. That’s why many owners and managers request fast‑turnaround superintendent inspections — condensed but targeted technical health checks designed to spot operational risks in a single day. In July 2025, we carried out such an inspection aboard the Panama‑flagged cement carrier. The focus was on technical spaces, machinery condition, and immediate compliance concerns — no dismantling or deep access to confined spaces, but a sharp, on‑the‑spot review. Scope of the One‑Day Visit

  • Walkthrough of engine room and machinery spaces
  • Visual & operational checks of critical systems
  • Crew interviews and maintenance log sampling
  • No tank entry, class thickness checks, or full systems trials

Key Findings

  1. Engine Room Bilges
Oil/water mixture present in bilge wells — partially cleaned, but residues remain in unreachable corners. Further cleaning and repainting will be needed for a proper standard.
  2. Sewage Treatment Plant
No aeration due to inoperative air supply system. Unit is non‑functional and under urgent repair to restore MARPOL Annex IV compliance.
  3. Fuel & Lubricating Oil Purifiers
All purifiers currently operating in manual mode. Automatic temperature control and process regulation systems are out of order.
  4. Booster Unit
  • Viscosimeter out of order
  • Temperature control valve malfunctioning
  • Fuel oil automatic filter control box non‑operational — requiring manual monitoring.
  1. Ballast Valve Control System
Central control is out of order. To operate ballast valves, void spaces are left open continuously — a non‑ideal workaround that affects watertight integrity standards.
  2. Steering Gear
Operational, but visible oil leaks around control actuators. Leak source to be identified and repairs scheduled.
  3. Bilge Pump
Main bilge pump out of service, with no spare parts on board. Temporary bilge management is being done via an air‑driven membrane pump.
  4. Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
PMS is paper‑based, not digital, not linked to running hours, and relies on calendar dates or ad‑hoc entries. This makes tracking overhauls against manufacturer recommendations difficult and risks missed servicing intervals.

Quick Superintendent Assessment Within a single working day, the inspection revealed:

  • Vessel operational but with critical automation and control systems offline.
  • Workarounds in place for pumping, ballast, and fuel supply systems, which should be addressed promptly.
  • Maintenance culture present, but documentation and tracking methods not aligned with best industry practice.
  • Some repairs in progress, but PMS modernisation and targeted system restoration are urgent.

Why This Matters For owners, managers, and charterers, even short visits can flag operational weak points before they escalate into detentions, costly delays, or safety incidents. In this case, key risk areas — from sewage compliance to automation downtime — could lead to port state control deficiencies or commercial disputes if left unresolved.   Iegorov Marine Inspection & Audits – How We Help We offer:

  • Superintendent oversight during port calls or repairs
  • Pre‑purchase inspections for buyers and financiers
  • Condition surveys to benchmark vessel health against industry standards
  • PMS audits and modernisation support to bring records in line with ISM and class requirements

A one‑day superintendent inspection is not a substitute for a full condition survey — but it’s a fast, cost‑effective health check that can protect your operational schedule and your bottom line.   📩 Contact us today to arrange your superintendent inspection or to discuss how we can help modernise your PMS and reduce operational risk.   Iegorov Marine Inspection & Audits Your partner in vessel safety, compliance, and asset protection.
